Artist Bio
Brandon Tellez (b. 1996) is a self-taught Mexican artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Born in Morelia, Michoacán Mexico, at the age of 6 he and his family immigrated to the US. From there his migration from city to city and his acclimation to new places helped his practice of observation and inspired his keen sense of detail. As a self taught painter, Tellez has worked tirelessly to refine his skills by self determination and pure passion for his craft.
Tellez felt the call for art in his early teens and began painting in 2016, his work having been shown for the first time in the same year in an Art Basel show entitled “The Fearless Artist”. This show set the tone for his ascension, from then on consistent work and tenacity led to a great payoff when he landed his first self titled solo exhibition in Southampton curated by Denis Leon, at the young age of 24. From 2020 onward Tellez has participated in multiple exhibitions, his last two solo exhibitions being in Soho and Chelsea, NYC.
An artist that remains untethered to any medium or tool, Tellez found himself using his ambidexterity to unlock different styles in his paintings. Painting with both his right and left hands has given him a level of freedom that can be seen in his diverse portfolio. His journey remains unpredictable yet refined and focused on seeing how far his passion and pure talent coupled with work ethic can take him.

Artist Statement
I believe my artistry has evolved past myself, and has allowed me to take on the role as a visual scribe of my community's experiences. Utilizing deep and rich pigments such as brown and black cements my intention to represent those without voice and spotlights their cultural value to the world by their existence. Standing on the artistic precipice of change I am not tethered to one art style, I have the vulnerability to allow the paintbrush to guide me to messages I have not pre conceived, which retains my originality, depth and intensity. However, through time I have developed my ability to ponder my subject and attack canvases with precision and intention. Especially when detailing the unique experiences of my life growing up in my beloved homeland in Mexico, my people, and the many communities I’ve been blessed to call home in the United States that are inhabited by other minorities whose lives have closely inspired and paralleled my own. Growing up in a Christian home has benefitted me and has given me the ability to find deep symbolism and meaning in the world, which has greatly affected my work. In each piece, I focus on exploring the core views of sin, sacrifice and redemption and how those three values are continuously revolving as time goes on. These observances are amplified on large canvases probing thoughts and conversation, so that my audience can go inwards and truly resonate with my message.
